I just got my acceptance letter!!!! Im so pumped I cant even tell you. I had no interest to go anywhere else besides there and I was so relieved to get in. Anyone else plan on going next year? By the way - if you got in feel cool because apparently they had tonnnnnzzz of girls apply this year and they were really selective. Thats another reason I want to go - imagine what an exlusive group of 65 girls!

Hatzlacha on your decision!

My daughter is having a really hard decision between two seminaries. Her two choices are Darchei Binah and Ateret. She is looking for a place that will help her grow spiritually, however not in a forced way. She does not want to spend her year with "party girls" who spend most their time on Ben Yehudah or hanging out with boys. She is what some people may consider "more modern", but she has a bais yaakov education and is yearning to grow. We are from an out-of-town city, and from what we hear, Ateret is very homey and friendly, but we are afraid the rules may be a little strict. Please reply and bring your comments as soon as possible!

I"m coming back from Israel before the fall semester of school and need some help. What do people think towards Touro on 23rd (NYSCAS). It's a mixed college but compared to a any other school they still fall under the category of a "jewish institution." I hear lots about the boys and girls mingling and socializing out of class like in the student lounge and eating together. Is it still a plus over a CUNY school? If you are going mixed why not with more jewish people? Or is more jewish people a negative? What do people think?

What does yeshivah world think of a girl who went to bais yaakov schools and then to seminary, going to touro college SCAS (mixed program), regarding shidduchim?

Does anyone know anything about a seminary/college in Ofakim that supposedly takes FAFSA? What's its name? Will credits from here transfer there? Do Israeli college accept it as a valid degree-ie if i finish my ba there, will i be able to move on to a masters in a regular israeli college?
If you have any answers, or any other relevant information, please please please let me know! It's CRUCIAL that i find out about this sooner than later!
(Please don't say google it- i've tried, and i'm not even sure what i'm googling or looking for exactly...)
Thank you so much!
Shavua tov! :D

I find it amazing that the BY system transplanted to America, resulted in such a large network of schools with more or less uniform standards. Don't you?
How did it happen that someone can say, "I am a Bais Yaakov student" and we know what type of education they got and their hashkafos?
I wish that someone had written a full and complete history.

I just got into Ateres and Seminar. Being that lots of people say that they are pretty similar, I would like to know of the differences. And people don't usually tell me exactly WHAT is similar about them- so, would anyone be able to pinpoint the similarities too just so I could get my thoughts straight?
And please don't look to be "politically correct" or anything and let me know your thoughts straight out. Like if you think that one place is kinda bumy and accepts everyone for example, just say so.
And since Seminar was not such a serious topic of discussion before now, PLEASE let me know about it- like what type of girls, staff, dorms, new-yorky vs not, and stuff like that!
Thanks!! ;)
And I will take this opportunity to wish hatzlacha, clarity and guidance to all girls in a similar situation!

Although I grew so much this year, there are many things I wish someone would have told me, or if they did tell me, I should have listened and implemented their advice. The following tips are meant to help prevent much of the issues I had this year from occurring to anyone ever again.

1. If you are unhappy at the school you are at after the first two weeks, then you should start looking into places to switch to within a few days. I decided not to look into other schools until after Sukkos, and as a result, I ended up having to live in someone's house for a month in between schools, and then ended up in a school that was not a fit for me at all, and now, I have to leave E"Y before the year is up because of some issues that came up.

2. If you have any learning issues or other issues that will impact your participation at the institution of your choice, try to speak to people who know you well and other girls who may have similar issues about how they were able to deal with the issue and if the school was accomodating.

3. Try to find out how many girls attend the schools you are interested in before applying.

4. Being away from home in a foreign country is very difficult at the beginning because your family is not there to help you physically adjust.

5. Seminary is a money making business.

Feel free to include any other tips you have!

Raboisai,

I love listening to shiurim on YUTorah, Shas Illuminated, MP3 Shiur, R' Kantor, etc.

However, sometimes, the magidei shiur go at a speed too fast for me and I miss every word they're saying.

Does anyone know of any software that can basically slow down an MP3 recording of a shiur? Audacity?

Does anyone know where I can get smicha in the Tri-state area? It doesnt make a difference whether Litvishe Rabbonim, or Chassidishe Rabbonim? I have learned yorah deah but outside of yeshiva, and therefore i cant get a yeshiva smicha. I have already done Rav Zalman Nechemia Goldbergs smicha, but would also like to take smicha from another rav in America.
Also if you have a suggestion, please let me know what kind of bechina it was and how long. thanks for the help.

Any suggestions on what is a good career path / major choice for a guy in college (Brooklyn College / Touro)? A field that pays well and has good job prospects.
